PHNOM PENH, June 3, 2024 – The solemn funeral procession for the late Most Venerable Tep Vong, Buddhist Supreme Patriarch of Dhamma Mahanikaya of Cambodia, commenced early this morning. The revered leader's journey was marked by the participation of Buddhist monks, various religious groups, armed forces personnel, civil servants, and youth organizations.

Starting from Ounalom Pagoda, where his body lay in state for 100 days, the procession moved along a meticulously planned route. The cortege traveled along Sisowath Quay, proceeding to Wat Phnom Historical Resort, then along Preah Norodom Boulevard, and finally reaching the Independence Monument. The final destination was the crematorium located in front of Botum Vattey Pagoda, where the cremation ceremony will take place.

The procession, divided into five distinct sections, covered a route exceeding five kilometers and lasted approximately two hours.

The cremation ceremony, to be held later today, will be presided over by King Norodom Sihamoni, with prominent Cambodian leaders, senior officials, the general public, foreign Buddhist dignitaries, and members of the diplomatic corps in attendance.

Venerable Tep Vong passed away on February 26, 2024, in Phnom Penh due to natural causes at the age of 93.

In response to his passing, the Royal Government declared June 3, 2024, as the second official day of mourning for the esteemed patriarch, following the initial mourning day on February 27, the day after his death.

As per the government directive, all national flags at public and private institutions are to be flown at two-thirds mast today. Additionally, all entertainment programming on public and private television and radio stations has been postponed as a mark of respect.
